Jean-François Picher, composer

At the age of 17, Jean-François gets his start as manager and guitarist for the 9-piece band Carpe Diem, learning to perform on stage around the Québec city region with the Pinchaud family and other local musicians. In 1996, the band becomes a trio of two guitars and a violin and takes on a 2 year tour of coffee houses and Boites à Chansons around the province. After this positive experience Jean-François starts his solo career as a song writer and producer. Jean-François then moves to Drummondville in 2000 to study arranging, sound design, mixing and sound reinforcement. He will then go into a new phase of his musical career. Louis-Philippe Amiot, composer

Born in Montréal in 1981, Louis-Philippe Amiot develops a passion for music at an early age. At 18 years-old, he masters the guitar and the drums and moves to Drummondville to study at Cégep sound design and sound techniques. He graduates from Sound design in 2001 and starts his career in sound capture, mixing and arrangements for a wide array of projects. This will lead him to work with tens of artists who cover a wide range of styles, from classical to heavy metal, and from hip-hop to rock. Ariane Moffatt, La Bronze and Karim Ouellet have recorded a new version of the song “Aimons-nous quand même” by Deschamps and Jacques Perron

Following the tragic events which took place on January 29 in Quebec City, LaPresse + invited three artists, Ariane Moffatt, La Bronze and Karim Ouellet, to take up the song “Aimons-nous quand même” written by Yvon Deschamps and composed  by Jacques Perron, a work co-edited by Intermede. Music has a prominent place in Maxime Daviron’s life. It is essential to him, both as a listener and as a composer. Maxime Daviron has had, since childhood, an almost “spiritual” relationship with music. From the age of 7 to 11, he learned to play the piano and xylophone at the Périgueux Conservatory of Music in France. The composer Maxime Jacquet released in 2016 the album Story of a Life – Cinematic Orchestral and Piano Scores with Intermède Music. Interested in different musical genres such as Jazz, Rock, Metal, Industrial and Classical, Maxime Jacquet has a particular interest in orchestral music and music for video games. After completing classical piano studies at the Conservatory in France, Maxime headed towards composition for film by getting a Masters in Music for Applied Visual Arts (MAAAV) at the University of Lyon. He then studied at the University of Montreal in symphonic orchestration and interactive music for video games. A young self-taught musician, composer and arranger, Chloe-Anne Touma releases her first album 21st Century Knight in 2016 with Intermède Music. At only 22, Chloe-Anne already has a full artistic career. She begins her career as a child performer on a Christmas album and performs with many artists, including Celine Dion. In high school she decides to become a composer and is interested in film and television music, inspired by her favorite composers: Cyril de Turckheim, Patrick Doyle, John Williams, Jerry Goldsmith, Mack David, Al Hoffman and Jerry Livingston. Completely self-taught in this area, Chloe-Anne’s style leans towards electronic and pop-synthetic. Christopher J. Reed award 2016

This year, Carol Ryan, a founding-member of the APEM, will be honored for her career and commitment in the music field. Active in the industry for many years, she still manages the copyright office for Cirque du Soleil that she had developed. Since 2013 the Christopher J. Reed award, in honour of the founder of Intermède Music who passed away in 2012, honors a person every year of the professional community. The recipient must have shown a great respect for creators and copyright, and made an outstanding contribution to the recognition of the music publishing business, as did Christopher J. Reed. The awarding of the 2016 prize will take place on June 16 in Montreal at the Maison du Festival Rio Tinto Alcan.
